What is the difference between a Hawley and a clear retainer?
A Hawley retainer uses a thin wire across the front teeth with an acrylic body, so it is adjustable and repairable and tends to last a long time. A clear retainer is a thin transparent tray that covers the teeth, which makes it far less noticeable but harder to adjust. Many patients wear a clear retainer at night and keep a Hawley as a durable backup.
How long do I wear a retainer?
